The Assassin Jax

Jax was the perfect assassin. Efficient. Invisible. Untraceable. Then someone killed him. Or rather, they killed Body #47. Because Jax does not die. Every night, his consciousness uploads to a new cloned body — younger, stronger, and waiting for him in a hidden facility beneath the Nevada desert. He has lived this way for thirty years. He has died over a hundred times. He has never questioned the arrangement. Until now. On his 104th resurrection, Jax wakes in a body that feels wrong. His memories are fragmented. His reflexes are slow. And tucked inside his jacket pocket is a handwritten note — in his own handwriting — that says: “Do not trust the doctor. Your memories are not real. You have never died. You have been replaced.” Jax escapes the facility. The outside world is not what he remembers. The dates don’t match. The technology is decades behind. And the face in the mirror? It is not his. Someone has stolen his life. Now Jax is going to take it back.
